What to Expect

We are glad that you are considering a visit to First Baptist Norfolk. No matter where you are, what you believe, or whatever is going on in your life, welcome. We would be honored to have you as our guest. You'll find warm, engaging people and exciting environments and opportunities for all ages. Our environment is casual and relaxed, and we hope you feel at home.

We meet together to worship at 6 different times each weekend. Our on-campus small groups (we call them LIFEgroups) meet at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 am on Sundays. Learn more about LIFEgroups.

Sunday - Worship Center (Kempsville Road)

8:00 am, 9:30 am, 11:00 am

These are our worship gatherings designed for all ages. Our Senior Pastor, Dr. Eric Thomas, preaches most Sundays in all gatherings. You'll experience music that is relevant featuring a variety of worship songs by today's leading songwriters as well as time-tested hymns that all help us worship God in a meaningful way. These gatherings last about 75 minutes.

11 am (Chapel)

This is our Spanish language gathering led by Pastor Vernig Suarez.

Sunday - Worship Center (Volvo Parkway)

11 am

The worship gathering is a good place to go for the first time here. Someone from the Welcome Team will help you find it. They wear blue T-shirts and are happy to help. We want you to be comfortable, so we've created a casual atmosphere. You can grab a cup of coffee in the café. During our worship gatherings, our band leads us in classic and modern songs of the church. Our Senior Pastor, Dr. Eric Thomas, will have an inspiring message. The message is broadcast from our Kempsville Road location most weeks. No matter where you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome at First Norfolk.

We offer activities for all ages on Wednesday evenings beginning at 6:00 pm. Find more information here.

Office Hours

The church offices at Kemspville Road are open Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. In the summer, offices are open Monday - Thursday, 8 am - 5 pm.

Our calendar details other events that occur throughout each week.

If you are visiting on a Sunday, we encourage you to park in guest parking. There will be signs and people to help you find this parking area. Guest Parking puts you close to the lobby entrance, and you'll be able to access guest services or explore on your own. The worship gathering is a good place to go for the first time here.

If all of this is a bit overwhelming, visit Guest Services in our Lobby and someone will be happy to direct you to groups for each member of your family.

Most Sundays, we have a Guest Reception following the 9:30 and 11am services. Stop by and meet our Pastor.  If you have questions, or would like to talk about some other decision, our Ministry staff will be there to help. Look in our weekly publication, This Week at First, for more information about the Guest Reception.

We have small groups for all ages. We call them LIFEgroups, and these groups are where people enjoy making friends, enjoy the fellowship and caring of others, have great conversation, and in-depth Bible study. Many people make lifelong friends in LIFEgroups. Being a part of a LIFEgroup connects you with people in a similar life stage who care for each other, and together grow in their faith through Bible study and fellowship.

You can download a guide here or stop by guest services to find out which group might be best for you.
