What is Anchored?

Anchored disciples followers of Jesus to know and love God deeply, love others, and live on mission by integrating the biblical story, Christian theology, and spiritual disciplines.

Anchored is a 24-week discipleship initiative (12 weeks in the fall and 12 weeks in the spring) designed to help you grow in your understanding of God and your place in His story.

Through group discussion, weekly teaching, guided readings, and intentional community, you'll explore:

The overarching story of Scripture
Foundations of Christian theology
Spiritual disciplines that shape a life with God

As you journey through the unfolding story of Scripture alongside others, your understanding of who God is deepens—and so does your love for Him. That love begins to reshape your life, aligning your habits, relationships, and purpose with His. The natural result? A growing desire to love others and live on mission.

Why Anchored?

As biblical and theological literacy continues to decline, many churches are seeking ways to provide deeper, more intentional discipleship within the local church.

But discipleship is more than gaining knowledge—it is about becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus who loves God, loves others, and lives on mission.

Anchored helps participants:

See the Bible as one unified story.
Understand core Christian beliefs with clarity.
Develop rhythms that form a lifelong relationship with God and others.
Grow in community with others pursuing the same goal.

Who is it for?

Anchored is for anyone who wants to grow in their faith, including those who are:

Exploring Christianity
New to the faith and looking for clarity
Longtime believers wanting renewed depth

You do not need to be a member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk to participate— everyone is welcome!

What's the Commitment?

Anchored is designed to be more intentional than a typical Bible study. Because of its depth and scope, it requires a higher level of commitment—but that investment creates space for meaningful growth and lasting transformation.

Time

Weekly gathering (2 hours)
Weekly readings (typically 1–2 hours)

Cost

$35, which includes:

45–60 minutes of high-quality teaching each week
Three essential books
One personalized Anchored journal
Limited childcare for children birth through 5th grade
Light refreshments every Wednesday
