The Young at Heart group meets each month on the first Tuesday at 10 AM in the Fellowship Hall of our Kempsville Road Location. Each month, we spend time in the Word, pray together, have interesting speakers, time for fellowship, singing, and the occasional special feature. Lunch cost is $6 and you pay at the door. Robert Burgess Hitchings is a Norfolk native, 7th generation from this area. He attended Old Dominion University where he was an associate Biology & Environmental major. For 25 years, he was a laboratory technician with Norfolk's Utilities Water Department.
In 1992, Robert went back to college and received his degree in History from Virginia Wesleyan College. From there he received a scholarship to study at Emmanuel College at Cambridge University in England. Two years later, he was back in England studying at the Westminster College in Oxford working on his masters.
In 2000, Robert became the new Archivist/Historian for the Sargeant Memorial History Room, Kirn Library, where he looked after Norfolk's rich history. In 2014, he retired from that position. Today, he is the Archivist/Historian for the Wallace Memorial Room, (library) Norfolk County Historical Society, housed in the Chesapeake library on Cedar Road. He also serves as President of the Norfolk County Historical Society of Chesapeake, VA.
Robert is married to Ceferina Hitchings, 29 years. They have 2 sons, 2 wonderful daugher-in-laws, and a grandson who was born in November 2016.
